FMI sent an official letter to Dorna which is the organizer of the MotoGP World Championship that is sent directly by the President of FMI, Paolo Sesti, and addressed to who is the CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta Dorna, where Sesti requested that Simoncelli's race number that can be perpetuated.
"As the final preparations before entering the event with Marco Simoncelli farewell at his funeral tomorrow, we sure need to do the easiest way to remember forever riders who follow the MotoGP World Championship with all the talent and character are very special. Rider and a person who will be missed forever!" Sesti wrote in his letter as reported GPone.
"Therefore, the Italian Motorcycle Federation asked Dorna to always keep a racing number '58 'in the highest category of the World Championships. I'm sure Dorna can and want to understand the deep meaning of this request, and therefore we are very confident of its acceptance," continued the President FMI's.
Simoncelli died after a deadly accident on the second lap Malaysian Grand Prix at the Sepang Circuit on Sunday (23/10). Honda Gresini rider's departure was to invite the whole world sympathy, especially from all the actors in the Italian sports world.
